Been gone for a while

There are so many ways to live within a green objective and yet most folks are so self absorbed that they won't get out of their own way to do something to make a difference.  I can't live a life for another and yet the selfish world around me seeks only their own gratification and almost seemingly at the expense of any and everyone.  Green is just another color to so many...  Bummer :(

epidemics have environmental causes -- who knew?

An interesting look at a book by McKay Jenkins:  "what's gotten into us? - STAYING HEALTHY IN A TOXIC WORLD"

"The landscape of health has changed. When you look at the increases in the rates of cancer, diabetes, obesity, allergies and autism, the statistics are numbing. But epidemics don't have genetic causes, they have environmental ones.

==============

Do you know what chemicals are in your shampoo? How about your cosmetics? Do you know what's in the plastic water bottles you drink from, or the weed killer in your garage, or your children's pajamas? If you're like most of us, the answer is probably no. But you also probably figured that most of these products were safe, and that someone - the manufacturers, the government - was looking out for you. The truth might surprise you.

After experiencing a health scare of his own, journalist McKay Jenkins set out to discover the truth about toxic chemicals, our alarming levels of exposure, and our government's utter failure to regulate them effectively. The result of his two-year journey,What's Gotten Into Us?, is a deep, remarkable, and empowering investigation into the threats - biological and environmental - that chemicals now present in our daily lives. It reveals how dangerous, and how common, toxins are in the most ordinary things, and in the most familiar of places:

- Our water: Thanks to suburban sprawl and agricultural runoff, 97 percent of our nation's rivers and streams are now contaminated with everything from herbicides to pharmaceutical drugs.

- Our bodies: High levels of hormone-disrupting chemicals from cosmetics, flame-retardants from clothing and furniture, even long-banned substances like DDT and lead, are consistently showing up in human blood samples.

- Our homes: Many toxins lurk beneath our sinks and in our basements, of course, but did you know that they're also found in wall-to-wall carpeting, plywood, and fabric softeners?

- Our yards: Pesticides, fungicides, even common fertilizers—there are enormous, unseen costs to our national obsession with green, weed-free lawns.

What's Gotten Into Us? is much more than a wake-up call. It offers numerous practical ways for us to regain some control over our lives, to make our own personal worlds a little less toxic. Inside, you'll find ideas to help you make informed decisions about the products you buy, and to disentangle yourself from unhealthy products you don't need - so that you and your family can start living healthier lives now, and in the years to come. Because, as this book shows, what you don't know can hurt you.

Makeing a difference for you, your home, your community and your world

  • I wanted to understand why I felt so "old".

  •  I wanted to not feel so "old" any longer.

  • I was tired way too early in the day.

  • I wanted to have the energy of my youth.

  • I sought answers to my questions about my health.

  • I found answers to these questions that had troubled me for years.

The funny thing is that though I am old (a matter of perspective - truly) I now feel much younger and have the energy to do so much more.  Things I thought were symptoms of my failing health were symptoms of less than ideal choices.

I'm thrilled to know what I now know and I would love to share it with you but I'll not force-feed anyone anything.  That being said; it's your move.  If you want to gain what I've gained then you'll have to ask.  Comments below will be answered honestly and frankly.  If you would like to win in the battle of "quality of life" then get in the game and respond below.

Thanks for taking the first step to a healthier and happier you.

A Cleaner Environment = a Healthier YOU!

Cancer rates continue to grow in almost every segment of the American Public. The majority of cancer cases are due to environmental factors. Most experts agree that as many as 80-90% of all cancers can be avoided by making certain lifestyle changes.—John Harte, Toxics A to Z

Doing the RIGHT thing doesn't cost more than doing the WRONG thing!

It's just a choice we make.  One choice blesses the earth for our use and for generations to com.  Another choice damages the balance of nature and does not benefit us now and has only negative effects on future generations.  The choice seems so painfully obvious and yet we "float along" in life without intentionally making a choice.  The sad thing is that our lack of choice IS A CHOICE and we never even realize the ripple effect of our actions.

Consider the question:

If you were about to purchase laundry detergent and you could buy a product, at the same cost as your usual brand, that was not watered-down but rather was concentrated and therefore used less "poluting fuel" to deliver AND provided for a smaller package and therefore ultimately provided for less recycling in the future AND contained no harsh chemicals and therefore DID NOT pollute the air in your home, as you used it, and DID NOT pollute the water supply when arriving at the water treatment plant AND did a superior job of cleaning your laundry...

WOULD YOU CHOOSE IT OVER THE INFERIOR and POLLUTING PRODUCT?

The choice truly is yours and it really is just that simple.

I love this earth and appreciate all that it is.  If you also appreciate what we have here then check for additional details...

EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY

Living in a "kind to the earth" state of mind is actually easier than you may think.  Good stewardship of this gift we have in the earth is so very important.  This will be our home for the rest of our lives and without any particular stress or strain on our part we can make it a better place for ourselves and for all generations to com.

Please take a look at the link to see how easy it can be to make this a better place now and forever.

Like most things worth doing; this process begins at home.

Healthy Choices for Healthy Kids

There just cannot be enough said about learning all you can to protect your kids.  I started to specify an area of interest in that first statement and then suddenly realized it was true just as stated.

My joy, these days, comes from helping parents realize they really do have simple choices that can and will make a difference in the health and quality of life for themselves and their children.  We do not need to live with poisonous air, poisonous water and generally poisonous environments any more.

Clean Homes = Clean Streams = Clean Conscience

It's truly such an easy process to replace the harsh chemicals in our homes with earth-friendly cleaning agents.  By buying from a company that doesn't pollute in the manufacturing process and sells concentrated cleaning products (not selling you water just to make for a bigger bottle) and packages those things in containers made from recycled plastics you can have a huge impact on our environment.

By removing harsh chemicals, like formaldehyde, (Yes, you buy it and willingly bring it right in the house without even realizing it) from your home you will vastly improve the air quality in your home and what goes "down the drain" won't pollute our water supply.  Without spending any extra money you've made a big difference in the world around you and literally had a positive impact on our world for generations to come.

Seriously, by just paying attention to what you buy, you can help our world be a safer place and you don't give up anything in the process.  Your Win, Society Wins, The Planet Wins!  The value is the same or even better for you and your own health will benefit by not requiring your body's immune system to ward-off the effects of those caustic chemicals.

I'm talking about no new money spent and yet huge gain in the quality of the environment around you.

Who would not want to gain so much for so many without having to give any extra at all?

I'm serious here; if you could choose between two boxes of goods to bring home and one would "get the job done" and contain poisons and even known cancer causing agents or the other which contains no harsh chemicals or poisons, "gets the job done" and costs the same or less which would you choose.

Well, the choice is truly yours and I'll be glad to show you how YOU can be a part of a revolution to really make a difference in our world.  If you would like to know more just add a comment below and indicate an email address I can use to reach you and I'll follow-up with some truly great news.

"YES I WILL" - Relay for Life

Just thinking about all the good we can do by choosing well as we shop so that we might not add to the pollution in our homes and in our water supply is exciting.  Now we're looking at an opportunity to benefit untold numbers of people by supporting the "RELAY FOR LIFE" right here in Boerne, TX and all across the nation.  The American Cancer Society does so many things to benefit so many and it's a pleasure to be able to help support such a cause.

This year the Relay For Life in Boerne begins Friday, April 8th and will be at the Champion High School Football Field.  The opening ceremonies are at 7:00 PM.  There are a number of ways you can help and even the smallest participation can impact millions of lives.  Contact me through the link below if you would like to learn more about how you can help.  It's really possible to be of support to the "event" and to prevention all at the same time.

Let this be the year that you say "Yes, I will" do something worth while and benefit millions in the process.  Let your support now help others and your wise choices in the future bring you to a better state of health and bring our air and our water supplies to a reduced state of pollution.

I would be thrilled to support you in making a shift in your own life that will benefit everyone you know and millions you don't know and all without burdening your own family budget.

Cancer-causing chemicals in baby shampoo??? You're kidding, Right?!

“When there are cancer-causing chemicals in baby shampoo and mercury in skin cream, you know the regulatory system is broken,” said Janet Nudelman of the Breast Cancer Fund and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. “Industry self-regulation just isn’t working.
=============================================

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a coalition of more than 100 nonprofit organizations working to protect the health of consumers and workers by eliminating dangerous chemicals from cosmetics. Core members include: Clean Water Action, the Breast Cancer Fund, Commonweal, Environmental Working Group, Friends of the Earth, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and Women’s Voices for the Earth.

There are economical alternatives and protecting ourselves and our families SHOULD be just this easy...

Toxic content in 884 common personal care products - Wow!

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) analyzed 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products, finding 884 of the chemicals were toxic.

There are better, safer, and cost-effective options for you and your family; ask me.

Friday, March 25, 2011

If it were that easy, would you do it?

If you could save on what you already buy and give yourself and your family the gift of health and wellness, would you?

If that same decision also meant that you would be improving the environment for yourself and all those to follow would you like the idea even more?

=========================================

Come on folks, let's get a discussion going here.  It really is important and certainly worth your time to learn how something you do each day could improve the world for millions to come.

Good idea .... one light bulb at a time .....

A physics teacher in high school said that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would.  With that thought in mind, read the following.

Check this out.  I can verify this because I was in Lowe's the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments.  They were all made in China .  The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking.  (note here: earlier this week, RZ was in Lowes looking for a sprinkler head. Looked at RainBird and Looked at Orbits.  RainBird is made in Mexico ; Orbits in the USA .  Orbits purchased!!)

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job . So, after reading this, I think this is a worthwhile thought.  Let's get behind the idea.

My grandson likes Hershey's candy.  I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico  now.  I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste, Colgate, is made in Mexico ... now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger.  I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets.  I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled "Everyday Value.  " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price.  The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets.  Yep, you guessed it... Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada .  The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA !  I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

We should have awakened a decade ago.

Let's get with the program.  Help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U.S.A.

Membership has its privileges :)

This is fun; it's like the big box stores but you don't have to buy a gross and the membership costs less too :)

Wow - A whole new source of big-BIG bargains :)

I'm in awe of this incredible way to save and especially in these uncertain economic times we're seeing right now.  The additional peace of mind I've found is very special, in deed.

  • Ever since I discovered how to live completely debt free I've been excited to find ways to buy things I truly need and use regularly (if not literally every day) at a "big, BIG discount".  You can imagine how I felt when I discovered there a way to save money and be kind to the planet and the environment.  I gained direct access to more than 300 products for health and wellness that are effective, safer, more natural, and a better value than grocery store brands
  • Preferred Customer discounts of 30%–40% off regular product prices, a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on every product and 24/7 access to the Product Store.  There are also friendly call center Wellness Representatives available to help out six days a week.
  • I can now save up to 15% at more than 650 popular online retailers and save up to 50% on everyday services including cell phones and wireless plans, health care savings plans, entertainment options, identity theft protection, and more.
I can't wait to learn more....

I'll be in touch early this week with more information so keep watching for it.

Thanks,
The Old Man

..... Accept the Golden Rule or move on (I like that)

After 30+ years in the insurance industry I took a retirement option due to an injury to my back.  I was no longer able to do the work I had enjoyed doing for all those years.
Retirement just wasn't the right thing for me though and with the help of a friend I found this opportunity to keep my mind active, to meet nice people from all over the world and to continue to provide a valuable service in the world marketplace.
All of this in the wellness industry and in association with a company that insists that the only acceptable business model requires agreement with and application of the golden rule first.
Wow ~ I'm astounded, once again, by the blessings that come my way.  Thank you!

I like cash-back

I just found out how to get cash-back from almost every place I might shop.  Even the Apple Store and they don't discount for anyone yet I now know how to get 1.5% cash back from even them.  3.75% back from Overstock.com and 8.25% back from Nordstrom.  All in all there are over 600 retailers I can get cash back from.  Ace Hardware, Barnes & Noble, Bass Pro Shop, Home Depot and hundreds more are on the list.  I believe I may have stumbled onto a real goldmine here.

It's nice to know that membership still has privileges. AND I don't even have to get "the card" to get them (lol)

A New Beginning

Some times it's just that unexpected nudge that makes all the difference in the world.  Who knew a friend of many years would lead me to something so simple and yet so exciting?
.
Having always (literally) been a people person this comes as no great surprise but a new journey will be taking me to the best kind of adventure.  Sharing what I learn as it comes to me will be thrilling and will benefit my friends so the very thought of it is quite intoxicating.
.
Come along on the journey with me and together we will see what lies ahead.  As I always like to say; hold on and have fun...
